Forums...?

So, here's a decision for you... should the Creative Image Maker website have a forum?

Firstly, I've got to stress that I would not want to step on the toes of APUG, RFF, LF, Leica Camera or any of the other superb forums out there. But should we make a little space on our website to discuss images and articles that are published on the site / in the magazine.

This is one decision where I'm sitting on the fence, so to speak. I quite like the idea that you could look at an image, then pop a comment on the forum, or ask a question about something you read in an article. On the other hand, I wouldn't want it turning in to one of the afore-mentioned forums. It would have to be a strictly 'magazine-only' forum.

It's up to you - either send in a comment, or email me at info at creativeimagemaker.co.uk with your thoughts.

Would it be simpler to have a small write up referring to these forums with links to direct readers to them rather than fuss with one on the magazine? Maybe also a link to the blogspot page and use that as a magazine exclusive forum? (Keep the flickr for contributors perhaps?)

I think you might be right Christopher about not having a forum on the mag website - but we'll see what others think.

Funny you should mention about this blog. At first, I thought that it would have done it's job when the new website went live... but I think it's still got a function even when the website is live. I see the blog as being the 'interactive' link between the magazine and the community.

I just found the flickr group yesterday, so my initial reaction would be: Why have *another* forum on the site when there's a flickr group already created. The answer of course is continuity. Flickr isn't the best of forums, nor does it scream "professional", but it is a proven and simple thing to manage. If only there were some way to pull the flickr forum onto your site - now *that* would be something.

(after reading your earlier reply)
This blog can indeed still serve a function - exactly that which you describe. It can easily be pulled, via rss, onto your website so new content here, means new content there. And because this blog isn't part of the magazine, it's the perfect place for random bits, links and whatever else. Perhaps, link to the flickr group from here, but not on the main site? *shrug*
